NEW MUSIC THIS MONTH: March 2020

By | Music | No Comments

Welcome to another look back at all the new music we have added this month to our in-store music services with Head of Music, Nick Bewes.

One of the biggest pop stars of the last decade returned this month with her first solo single in 3 years, Stupid Love. Taken from her album, Chromatica, it’s a perfect slice of pop. The video was filmed entirely using Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro triple camera system!

Sports Team have been described as 2020’s most chaotic new band, we just think that they produce great music, their latest single Here’s The Thing is just brilliant. It’s taken from their debut album, Deep Down Happy.

We’ve been fans of Jessie Ware for a very long time here at KVH Studios, having first added her to our playlists back in 2012. Since then, she has produced some of the smoothest pop sounds around and returned this month with the sublime Spotlight.

It’s been 7 years since we first added the brilliant Haim to our playlists. Now they are getting ready to release their third album, Women in Music Pt 3. And they have unleashed their latest single The Steps, which is another cracker.

And finally, there’s another Trolls movie on the way, so Justin Timberlake is back with some new tracks. The first movie gave us the brilliant Can’t Stop the Feeling. This time he’s teamed up with SZA for equally good The Other Side.

And there you have it, our highlights of the last month in music. Keep up to date with our playlist additions Spotify playlist here.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Claire Martin – Commercial Director

How long have you been at KVH Studios?

I started as an Account Executive in 2008 and have worked through all various different roles in Client Services since!

What does your job involve?

I wear many hats in my role but essentially, I’m responsible for the commercial side of the business and the overall growth. Which includes (in a nutshell) supporting our Head of Client Services in the development of existing accounts, new revenue opportunities, brand and marketing, new business sales, implementation, new and retention contracts and product development. It’s a busy one but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

What did you do before you worked at KVH Studios?

I studied Journalism at University then had a few temporary positions before starting my search for my career in media. Most of my adult life has been at KVH Studios!

What do you love most about what you do?

The variety, the pace and the people. No day is the same and we’re constantly evolving and learning through new challenges. We’re a small division that’s part of a big business so whilst we’re super busy all the time, we also have the flexibility and freedom to grow into new areas and try new things, which is really exciting. I’m surrounded by incredibly talented people every day that I have worked with for many years now so we’re like a family and work so well together. Also, it doesn’t feel like a ‘job’ to me anymore which is a nice feeling.

What’s your favourite memory at KVH Studios?

Yikes, there’s so many! I really don’t know how to answer that one! Sorry!

How would you describe KVH Studios in 3 words?

Exciting, passionate and dedicated.

If you could pick one, what would be your favourite music track?

I like all sorts of music and have favourite tracks for different reasons so, for this, let’s go with my wedding song ‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers as it’s just fills me with warmth and makes me think of great memories with my husband and friends, which is why we chose it.

What do you like to do when you’re not at KVH Studios?

I really love family time. Weekends with my mum, dad, brother, husband and 3-year-old daughter are the best weekends. But I’m also a big fan of girl time and can’t beat a night out with friends. Other than that, I love holidays, renovating my home and planning!

In-store Music

Does playing music in your stores make a difference?

Does playing music in your stores make a difference?

The answer to that is a resounding YES, based on extensive research over recent decades, 81% of customers agree that playing in-store music creates a better atmosphere when compared to a retail store that does not play music*.

In fact, music is listed within the top 5 areas that make an instant impact on customers (the others being light, smell, space, and visual appearance). Yet we’re constantly amazed at how many retailers get it wrong!

Most retailers are playing music, but there are still many unanswered questions…

  • Do store colleagues enjoy it?
  • Is it profiled to your demographic and footfall?
  • Does it represent your brand effectively?

It makes us wonder why so little attention seems to be given to the music and ‘sound branding’ when it’s such an important factor within the mix. So why focus only on the visual aspects?

Here’s the amazing bit. Getting your music right costs, no more than getting it wrong! Yet the prize for getting it right can be so rewarding. It’s a case of choosing the right music partner to work with…
