Music July

It’s that time of the month again, where KVH Studios Head of Music Nick Bewes, picks some of the best new music that has been added to our in-store music service in July.

It’s nearly been a decade, since we first added James Blake to our playlists here at KVH Studios. Since then, Blake has released 4 albums. ‘Are You Even Real?’ is the second new song of 2020, following on from ‘You’re Too Precious’ and continues to showcase one of the best creators of music out there now.

Last year, Kygo was the chosen one to create one of the songs of the year, his remix of Whitney’s version of Higher Love. 2020 sees him give Tina Turner’s What’s Love Got To Do With It? A new life. Another fine job, Mr Kygo.

DJ & producer Jayda G, born in Canada but now based in London. Has released her new EP at the beginning of July featuring Both of Us/Are You Down. We added the brilliant Both of Us to our playlists. It’s her first new music since releasing her album ‘Significant Changes’ last year. We look forward to hearing more from her.

Katy Perry pulled off one of the greatest reveals at the end of her video, Never Worn White. Where she announced to the world that she was expecting her first child, at about the same time as releasing her new album Smile. The title track is her latest single.

When Guardian journalist, Caroline Sullivan saw Another Sky live. She apparently tweeted “I’m almost dumbstruck by the singer – she has the strangest, most haunting voice I’ve heard in ages.” She isn’t wrong, Catrin Vincent has a stunning voice. The band are gearing up for the release of their debut album, I Slept on the Floor, which is out in August.

This is just a selection of the new music that has been added to KVH Studios playlists recently. Keep up to date with our playlist additions Spotify playlist here.

Welcome to the latest look at some of the best new music that our Head of Music Nick Bewes has added to KVH Studios services in the last few weeks.

We can’t believe it’s six years since we first added Karen Harding to our playlists with the sublime Say Something. She returned this month with the brilliant new single Undo My Heart helped by the DJ, singer, songwriter, remixer and record producer Digital Farm Animals.

Poppy Ajudha has fans in high places after President Barack Obama selected her Tom Misch collaboration Disco Yes as one of his favourite songs of 2018. Now she’s back with a great single, Strong Womxn.

Speaking of President Obama, he was inaugurated as the 44th President in 2009. The same year Gordon Brown was UK Prime Minister, Alex Ferguson was still in charge of Man Utd, Fabio Capello was in charge of the England Football team and The Doves released their fourth album Kingdom of Rust. Fast forward to the current day and they’ve just released the first track from their long awaited fifth album, and it’s a cracker. Good to have them back.

The Black Pumas are just brilliant, and their new single, a cover of the Tracey Chapman classic Fast Car, is just stunning. The duo has been described as “Mesmerizing” ‘’Staggering’’ & “Wu-Tang Clan meets James Brown.” If you’re into soul, and you haven’t checked them out yet, sort it!

And our final pick for June is the latest single from Melanie C. She’s always been classed as the one with the best voice from the Spice Girls and this single is the best thing she has done in ages. It sounds so fresh and current.

And there you have it, our highlights of the last month in music. Keep up to date with our playlist additions Spotify playlist here.

How long have you been at KVH Studios?

I started at KVH Studios early this year in January!

What does your job involve?

Well, my job involves managing some exciting, well-known brands. You can find me writing creative scripts for their in-store radio to promote product promotions, scheduling ads, creating content for digital screens, meeting with clients, presenting content proposals and dealing with any day-to-day queries from my accounts. I also support with the marketing side of KVH Studios too, from scheduling blogs to suggesting content ideas for our social media channels.

What did you do before you worked at KVH Studios?

I graduated from University in August 2019 where I studied Marketing with Advertising. During uni, and shortly after, I worked on gaining more work experience within the industry by doing many work placements and internships, I then embarked on my search for jobs within the creative media industry which brought me here to KVH Studios.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love the creativity of it all and there’s never a day that’s the same. One day I could be scripting, the next creating content for digital signage, or proposing new content ideas for clients for their music services!

What’s your favourite memory at KVH Studios?

I’d say my first day…meeting all the wonderful folks at KVH Studios. They’re all super passionate, knowledgeable and great people to learn from in this industry.

How would you describe KVH Studios in 3 words?

Fun, dynamic and innovative.

If you could pick one, what would be your favourite music track?

My music taste is very varied but I’m gonna go with ‘Dave – Location’ just because it shouts summer vibes!

What do you like to do when you’re not at KVH Studios?

I enjoy gym’ing, netflix’ing, hosting games night with the boyfriend for friends and when I can, taking a weekend trip up to North Wales to see my family!
