New Music 2021

KVH Studios Head of Music, Nick Bewes, is here for the first look back at some of the new music of 2021 that has been added to KVH Studios playlist in January.

There’s only one place to start and that is with the record-breaking ‘Driver’s License’ by Olivia Rodrigo. This song has become the fastest song in history to reach 200 million Spotify streams, it also holds the record for most Spotify streams in a single week, with over 80 million streams. And if that wasn’t enough, it also holds the record for most streams achieved in a single day for a non-holiday single, achieving almost 14 million streams on January 15th. Oh, and it’s been number one in the UK, USA, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Greece, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Ireland, Singapore and Sweden. Not bad!

The Foo Fighters continue to tease their new album ‘Medicine at Midnight’ with another great single. ‘Waiting for a War’ is a more traditional Foo’s track than first single ‘Shame Shame’. And as a massive fan of the band, I’m looking forward to hearing the new album.

Another album I’m looking forward to is the third from the brilliant Royal Blood. We first playlisted the band back in 2013 and the progression in their sound is amazing to hear. The title track of the new album ‘Typhoons’ is the second taster, and it’s so good!

Let’s step away from rock for a moment with the latest release from Anne-Marie. She has teamed up with YouTuber, internet personality, rapper, singer, actor, and boxer KSI and producers Digital Farm Animals for her biggest hit so far, ‘Don’t Play’.

And finally, January saw the return of Kings of Leon with ‘The Bandit’. Taken from their first album in 4 years ‘When You See Yourself’, it’s good to hear the band on fine form.

And there you have it, a great first month of new music for 2021. You can keep up to date with our playlist additions by following us on Twitter @kvhstudiosmusic and our Spotify playlist here.
