Brit Awards 2021 Preview

Brit Awards

Quite a lot has happened since the last Brit Awards on 18th February 2020. As the artists and crowds gather at The O2 tonight for the delayed 2021 awards, we are emerging from something very few who attended or watched the show last year could have predicted…Less than a month later all live performances were canceled and just over a month later the country was in lockdown.

Here we are, 15 months later, at a very important stage. The event is part of the Government’s scientific Events Research Programme, using enhanced testing approaches to examine how events can take place without the need for social distancing. The Brit Awards is also the first live music show at The O2 in over a year and the audience will include 2500 frontline workers.

That’s the serious stuff out of the way, let’s get on with the glitz and glamour. It’s time for some predictions! Well kind of. Rather than predict who will win the newly designed Brits trophy in each category, we will pick our own winners. They might be the same as the eventual winners, they might not!

It’s time for the KVH Studios Brit Awards 2021!

International Female Solo Artist

Nominees: Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Cardi B, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift.

For us, there’s only winner in this category, despite all of them having successes, it’s Taylor Swift. She has released 3 albums since the last ceremony, which have all reached number one here in the UK. Taylor will also receive the, already announced, Global Icon award.

International Male Solo Artist

Nominees: Bruce Springsteen, Burna Boy, Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, The Weeknd.

Another easy one for us, well done The Weeknd. The Grammy’s might not like you, but we do!

International Group

Nominees: BTS, Fontaines D.C., Foo Fighters, HAIM, Run The Jewels.

We’ve been fans of HAIM for a long time and their latest album is fantastic.

Male Solo Artist

Nominees: AJ Tracey, Headie One, J Hus, Joel Corry, Yungblud.

Step forward Dominic Harrison!

Breakthrough Artist

Nominees: Arlo Parks, Bicep, Celeste, Joel Corry, Young T & Bugsey

When heard Black Dog by Arlo Parks around this time last year, we knew that she was the real thing. Not that there was much doubt beforehand.

British Single with Mastercard

Nominees:

220 Kid & GRACEY – Don’t Need Love, Aitch & AJ Tracey feat. Tay Keith – Rain
Dua Lipa – Physical, Harry Styles – Watermelon Sugar,
Headie One feat. AJ Tracey and Stormzy – Ain’t It Different, Joel Corry feat. MNEK – Head & Heart
Nathan Dawe feat. KSI – Lighter, Regard & RAYE – Secrets, S1MBA feat. DTG – Rover
Young T & Bugsey feat. Headie One – Don’t Rush

Some great singles on the list and there are some obvious omissions as well, however Dua Lipa has this in the bag for us.

British Group

Nominees: Bicep, Biffy Clyro, Little Mix, The 1975, Young T & Bugsey

There’s lots of talk that Little Mix might get this one, and it would be deserved if they do, however we are going for Bicep. Their latest album ‘Isles’ is pure class but isn’t nominated in that category.

Mastercard Album

Nominees: Arlo Parks – Collapsed in Sunbeams, Celeste – Not Your Muse, Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia, J Hus – Big Conspiracy, Jessie Ware – What’s Your Pleasure?

The album that we have gone back to time and time again since it’s release is Arlo’s. It’s an amazing album, especially as a debut album.

British Female Solo Artist

Nominees: Arlo Parks, Celeste, Dua Lipa, Jessie Ware, Lianne La Havas.

We’ve left this until the end and we’re still trying to make our mind up to be honest as it’s a difficult one. All of them are great and be worthy winners, but we have to pick one! Jessie Ware.

Tune in tonight at 8pm on ITV to see the winners, and to experience some live performances from the likes of The Weeknd, Rag’n’Bone Man & P!nk and the Rising Star winner Griff.

Let’s hope it won’t be long before we can all see live music in person! Fingers crossed. In fact, everything crossed.
