New music

Staycation season may be in full swing, but we’ve still been busy here at KVH Studios keeping our services up to date with the very latest releases. And now it’s time for our Head of Music, Nick Bewes, to share some highlights from August. Our first track this month has received lots of praise. The Guardian said it was “an instant disco-pop masterpiece” and Consequence of Sound said the track ‘’is pulsing, almost dizzying in its dance-floor intensity from start to finish, leaving the listener appropriately breathless’’. We agree with all that and say Take My Breath by The Weeknd is a brilliant single.

From one of the biggest music stars on the planet to a brilliant newcomer. 20-year-old Ellur from Halifax, West Yorkshire and is one to watch. Her latest single Moments is wonderful, and we are very pleased to support her by playing her track on our services.

Katy B has been quiet for a few years, her last album Honey was released in 2016. Five years later, she has released a brand new single, Under My Skin, and it’s a prime slice of Katy B! It’s so good to have her back!

Clinton Kane might be a new name to some, but he’s been making waves on YouTube for a while now, recording covers from the likes of The Weeknd to James Arthur. Now it’s time to shine with his own music and his second official single I GUESS I’M IN LOVE is a beautiful track.

And finally this month, let’s try and hang onto that summer feeling for as long as possible as Silk Sonic provide the sunshine soundtrack with their second single, Skate. Taken from their debut album, which is due in January 2022, it’s another slice of 70’s influenced soul/funk. And we love it!

Our Leeds Festival Preview

After a year off (you know because of that ‘thing’…), Leeds Festival is back and it’s bigger than ever! As well as the usual stages – BBC Music Introducing, BBC Radio 1 Dance, BBC Radio 1Xtra, Festival Republic (Friday only), The Lock Up (Saturday only) and The Pit (Sunday only) – the organisers have gone big this year, with not one but two main stages! And they are promising that there won’t be any time clashes between the two.

In our opinion, the line-ups for the main stages seem to be a bit strange, not really knowing who they are wanting to attract. I’m not sure there’s many people that will be interested in watching KSI & then Liam Gallagher on Friday or Becky Hill and then The Wombats on Sunday for instance, but fair play to the event for trying to mix it up.

Right, let’s have a look at some of the highlights…


The Festival Republic stage has an amazing line up. Sophie & the Giants, Baby Queen and headliner Girl in Red all being brilliant, but for us the highlight is the superb Holly Humberstone.

On the Introducing stage, check out Leeds’s very own Yard Act, while on the Main Stage West it’s Biffy Clyro who headline, replacing the Queens of the Stone Age, while Liam Gallagher is top of the bill for Main Stage East. Our main stage pick for Friday though is Wolf Alice, on the back of their brilliant latest album Blue Weekend, this is going to a special set.


The second day sees the main stages welcome the legendary Stormzy (East) & Catfish and the Bottlemen (West) as headliners. Elsewhere on Main Stage West is Sam Fender who is getting ready for his new album to be released and if the single is anything to go by, it’s going to be a cracker.

On the other stages, highlights include MK & Franky Wah on the Dance stage, Jack Harlow headlining the 1Xtra stage Yonaka making a fair amount of noise on The Lock Up, while Hull’s Low Hammer top the bill are on the Introducing stage.


Getting things underway on Sunday on the BBC Music Introducing stage at Leeds Festival is the rather good Police Car Collective, a group that we have been supporting this year, likewise Finn Askew and headliners Calva Louise. It’s a good place to discover your next new favourite!

Over on the main stages, KVH Studios favourite Sigrid is on East, alongside Two Door Cinema Club, a band we seem to have been playing for years having first playlisted them in 2010, and headliner Post Malone. Over Main Stage West, Slowthai and The Wombats warm things up for headliners Disclosure, who might well be dropping some of their new material like Seduction.
