October 2021

new music

By | Uncategorised | No Comments

It’s time for our monthly look back at the new music we’ve added to the KVH Studios’ services with Head of Music. Nick Bewes. There’s only one song by one artist that we can start with this month……

Adele is back and in a big way. Her comeback single, Easy on Me had massive first week figures of 217,300 chart sales – the highest week 1 figure since Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You, which earned 226,800 in January 2017. That wasn’t the end of it though, it also had 24 million streams, the most streams for a song in one week, and it also earns the biggest week of digital download sales of 2021 so far, with 23,500. Just imagine how big the album sales are going to be when 30 is released in November. More on album sales in a moment, first though….

Michael Kiwanuka continues to produce some of the best music around and he’s back with a brand-new track, Beautiful Life. It’s the theme song for a new Netflix documentary Convergence: Courage In A Crisis. And it’s classic Kiwanuka.

I mentioned earlier how big the album sales for Adele’s new album are likely to be. Coldplay know all about that. Their latest album Music of the Spheres had 101,000 chart sales in its opening week and is the first album to surpass 100,000 chart sales in a week since Ed Sheeran’s No. 6 Collaborations Project opened with 125,000 in July 2019. According to the Official Charts Company, 85% of Coldplay’s week 1 figures were pure sales (physical and download), including 12,400 on vinyl.

To finish off this month, a very rare thing. Two songs from one artist. The artist in question is Bonobo, aka the brilliant DJ, producer, and musician Simon Green. I don’t think there’s a more consistent producer of electronic music around right now. And this month he’s teased his latest album Fragments which is due early next year with two amazing pieces of music that showcase how amazing he is. I couldn’t decide which out of first track Rosewood and second single Tides to feature, so here are both!

There you have it for this month. Keep up to date with our new music additions by following us on Twitter @kvhstudiosmusic, and our New Music Spotify playlist here.

Live at Leeds

Live at Leeds Preview 2021

By | Uncategorised | No Comments

Live At Leeds is an award-winning music festival held annually in Leeds. In 2021 it will be held this weekend on Saturday 16th October. The festival celebrates its 15th year with some amazing live music across the city’s venues and spaces. KVH Studios‘ Head of Music, Nick Bewes, has spent some considerable time pouring over the schedule and has selected 15 acts he thinks you should check out….

12pm: The Sherlocks @ The Wardrobe

Live at Leeds’ Special Guests The Sherlocks kick things at noon. Take advantage of seeing this great band in such intimate surroundings, it doesn’t happen very often.

1pm: Kay Young @ Headrow House

Kay is brilliant. But don’t take our word for it. Roc Nation management have signed her after she was personally discovered by Jay Electronica, then on hearing her demos, she was signed by Jay-Z!

1.45pm: Low Hammer @ The Wardrobe

Fresh from supporting the Manic Street Preachers, this band from Hull bring their fusion of hard-edged electronic & indie to Leeds.

2pm: Babi Ali @ Leeds Beckett Stage 2

“Stevie Nicks & Sleaford Mods are among the touchstones for this free-ranging New Yorker’s adventures in sound”. That’s how The Guardian described Baba, and we think he’s great.

3.30pm: The Big Moon @ LUU Stylus

We’ve been playing The Big Moon on our services since 2017, and we are big fans of the band.

3.30pm: George Moir @ Brudenell Community Room

Whatever the weather outside, George Moir will bring the sunshine inside the Brudenell!

4pm: Nayana Iz @ Oporto

Nayana has been described as a ’genre-bending artist’, see why we love her music at Oporto.

4pm: Zola Courtney @ Belgrave Music Hall

A new name for you to check out if you like smooth R&B. “Zola is becoming a master at penning sultry R&B bops for a lovelorn generation” is how Notion described her!

5pm: The Let Go @ Nation of Shopkeepers

Radio 1’s Jack Saunders is big fan and so are we! You will be too.

5.30pm: Hamish Hawk @ Brudenell Community Room

Hamish’s new album Heavy Elevator was recently Album of the Day on BBC Radio 6 Music, and rightly so. His live shows are ‘a colourful and confident display of his wit, charm and sensitivity as a songwriter’.

6.30pm: Tycho Jones @ Northern Guitars Cafe Bar

Tycho might be a new name to you, but he’s one worth getting to know.

7pm: Chubby & the Gang @ The Key Club

According to the NME, the band have built a reputation for their deliciously wild punk spirit and, having just released their second album, they are in fine form.

7pm: James Vickery @ Belgrave Music Hall

James brings his silky-smooth music and amazing voice to Live at Leeds.

8pm: Police Car Collective @ Leeds Beckett Stage 2

We really like this duo and if you head to Leeds Beckett to see them, you will too! Honestly.

9pm: Poppy Ajudha @ LUU Stylus

Poppy released one of the best songs of 2021 in January with Weakness, but she is no overnight sensation having made music for a good few years now and she continues to be amazing.

And there you have it. A small selection of the acts that will be gracing the stages of Leeds on Saturday. The full schedule can be found here and all the details for collecting your wristband are here.

Have a great time!

Introducing our new dual media player!

By | Uncategorised | No Comments

Agility, accuracy, efficiency, relevance.

Buzzwords in the industry and so important for any commercial business to be able to provide to their customers.

And at KVH Studios we understand that.

That is why we are constantly looking at ways in which we can improve and innovate the technology we provide to our customers for the delivery of their music and digital signage.

Let’s go back to the beginning…

Our android music player was launched in 2015 to combat issues such as size, cost, flexibility, and personalisation. Following this, we were able to offer our clients a hand-held player free of charge with their service, that allows for site specific content and delivery via a variety of methods. None of this ‘one size fits all’ anymore!

But it gets better!

Not only do we continuously improve our player in terms of speed and storage, but we’re always developing the capabilities it can offer. Over the past few years, we have introduced weather activated messaging, hybrid live and non-live streaming and programming of timed specific messaging. All pretty cool huh?

But what about outside of audio?

Our digital signage services have grown from strength to strength over the last 5 years and we now provide a range of solutions including animated advertising, video walls and digital menu boards. So we can now offer the full media package! But we still had two separate devices for each media…

Introducing our new dual media player!

Eliminating the need and cost of a separate device for digital signage, our compact and easy to store, player now delivers visual as well as audio. This means we can now offer our dual media service via a free of charge player that can be easily self-installed, significantly reducing costs!

So if you’re looking for a provider that offers both services in one neat package, or you’re toying with the idea of adding digital signage as well as music into your marketing mix, give us a call to find out more about this exciting new launch!
