As we get ready celebrate 70 years of The Queen with the Platinum Jubilee, here’s KVH Studios’ Head of Music, Nick Bewes, to look back and celebrate some of the best new music released over the last few weeks!
The movie event of the year without a doubt has been the release of Top Gun Maverick, just the short 36 years after the original Top Gun movie was a massive hit. The original film had some great songs on its soundtrack, and the first taste of the Maverick soundtrack is the 80s influenced Hold My Hand by Lady Gaga.
Next up is the latest Nathan Dawe collaboration with Ella Henderson. Featuring a little bit of inspiration from Alex Gaudino’s 2007 hit Destination Calabria.
Jamie T is back after a 6-year absence. He released his fourth studio album Trick in 2016 and the follow up The Theory of Whatever should be out on 29 July 2022. The first taste of his new music is the brilliant The Old Style Raiders.
Over the last year or so, Rina Sawayama has released tracks with Sir Elton John and Charli XCX. Now she has released what NPR have described as ‘A glammy, country-pop inspired banger’, and you know what, they’re not wrong! Imagine if Lady Gaga worked with Shania Twain at her peak and you’re not far off this great single. (Warning, this isn’t the radio edit that we are playing on our services, so has some adult lyrics)
We first playlisted Pale Waves back in 2017 and it has been great seeing them grow in popularity and as a band over the years. They are back with a new single Lies from their third album Unwanted which is due out in August.
